The SAY Play Center at Lipke Park is continuing to evolve.

Work recently began in the gymnasium, where renovations will include a new basketball court that will be renamed the Detroit Pistons Court at SAY Play — thanks to the generosity of Pistons owner Tom Gores and his NBA franchise.

In January, the Pistons announced it was entering into a six-year $600,000 partnership with SAY Detroit to help fund the center’s academic programming, and its court and gym.

On the other side of the building in a separate project, work is underway to replace the flooring and floor-to-ceiling mirrors in the dance studio. And next week, the demolition and construction of a new baseball field will commence.

Stay tuned for more updates and photos!

My best friend and I petitioned the city of Detroit ( in the late 60’s) to install tennis courts at Lipke. They LISTENED!!!! We were then able to play there instead of having to ride our bikes to Farwell field which was a considerable distance away. Much later, my daughter attended preschool there . Who would have thought it would evolve to the park it is today!!!
