This fall, SAY Detroit Play Center will host a class of the Exceptional Academy, IT certification training with a focus in cybersecurity for adults with disabilities. We will be starting our 3rd year at that time. Our program combines the disabilities (Special Olympics Michigan) and STEM (after-school tutoring) efforts of SAY Play so this partnership makes perfect sense. We are all very excited about this opportunity. For the fall school year, we will be using temporary space at SAY Play until the completion of The Annex, at which point we will have a dedicated room.
Highlights of the post-secondary program include:
- IT certification (CCNA – Cisco Certified Network Associate) training with a focus in Cybersecurity for Detroit/Ann Arbor area adults with disabilities
- First program of its kind to be offered in Michigan and only the 2nd in the entire country
- Established in September 2019 – we are currently recruiting for our 3rd annual class to start this fall (1 site in Detroit, 1 site in Dearborn)
- We partner with area companies (Comerica Bank, Flagstar Bank, Masco, Plante Moran, Lear, North American Bancard, ProQuest, and CyberforceQ) for additional training opportunities during the school year and internship/job opportunities after program completion
- We will use the success of this initial program to expand our focus and curriculum to other areas and skills of interest to partnering companies
